CNBC reports on an interview at The Next Web with Pirate Bay founder Peter Sunder, who calls Mark Zuckerberg a "dictator" of "the biggest nation in the world" -- namely, Facebook.
"People in the tech industry have a lot of responsibilities but they never really discuss these things ... Facebook is the biggest nation in the world and we have a dictator, if you look at it from a democracy standpoint, Mark Zuckerberg is a dictator. I did not elect him. He sets the rules," Sunde told CNBC.
"And really you can't opt out of Facebook. I'm not on Facebook but there are a lot of drawbacks in my offline world. No party invitations, no updates from my friends, people stop talking to you, because you're not on Facebook. So it has real life implications."
In other news, Facebook has announced it will start to track non-members and start showing them targeted advertising.
Targeted advertising has become commonplace across the internet, but Facebook believes it can more accurately target non-members using the vast amounts of data it already has on the nearly 1.7 billion people who use the site. The company says it can use that data to make inferences about the behavior of non-members, an approach known as "lookalike" targeting. "Because we have a core audience of over a billion people [on Facebook] who we do understand, we have a greater opportunity than other companies using the same type of mechanism," Bosworth tells the Journal.
