Using data collected from a specially designed iPhone app, researchers found that human minds wander much more frequently than we realize, and our inability to stay focused in the present leads to unhappiness. The researchers note that although the ability to think about what isn't happening comes with an emotional cost, such abstract thinking is actually a significant cognitive achievement.
