So, Who Owns the Turkish National Anthem? Because It's Not the Turks

According to German magazine Spiegel Online, the Turkish government is rushing to legally protect the country's national anthem after realizing Turkey does not actually own the copyright on the work. The move is apparently a reaction to a dispute over a performance of the Turkish anthem in a German school where GEMA, the German copyright society that collects royalties when music is performed, tried to collect fees from the school for performing the national anthem.
