Blowing up microwaves is not only fun, but also a handy way for Reddit user tesla500 to strip them of useful parts, like tranformers and wave generators -- which he then puts together to create other monstrosities that seem to end up just as badly.
It actually sounds like Tesla500 spent a lot of time figuring out the best (and more fun!) way to blow a microwave up, but it also sounds nerve-wrecking, besides obviously dangerous:
The sound when these things explode is hard to describe, it's a very loud low frequency WHUMP, very unlike a gunshot or chemical explosion. I've only ever heard it from the next room, so I can't imagine how loud it is in the room! The wait is the killer, you have no idea when it's going to happen, just that it takes approximately 20 minutes. As Adam Savage said, that kind of stress cannot be good for you!
Needless to say, don't try this at home, kids! If the explosion doesn't kill you, your mother will.
If the video doesn't work, you probably will need to log in into YouTube here and verify you're old enough to see this. Apparently blowing up Microwaves is as bad as seeing boobies.
